Yes, I can! I have additional training and experience in this area.
Things to know:
Hoarding disorder is a mental health condition, and a formal diagnosis can be made by a health professional.
It may affect between 2-5% of the population.
There is a difference between feeling overwhelmed by decluttering and having a hoarding disorder.
If you think that you may meet the criteria for hoarding disorder, I encourage you to see a health professional.
There can be a lot of shame associated with this condition; I do want to listen to you and understand your concerns if you suspect this is an issue for you. I have experience and training in supporting people who experience hoarding behaviours. I work with you to understand your needs, concerns, and goals for your home. I will gently help you to declutter at a pace that suits you.
Being ready to make some changes is the most important part of working with me. Generally, the decluttering process takes longer in a situation where there is hoarding behaviour.

As a general guide I do not work in homes where the hoarding has reached above a level 6 on the Clutter Image Rating Scale.
While I understand that cluttered homes can get very dusty and are hard to clean, I do not work in properties with severe environmental neglect.

Yes, BUT... It is important that the person you care about is ready to take action to deal with their clutter. I want to be helpful, not harmful; therefore, I never force a person who is not ready and willing to declutter.
First, let’s focus on what you can do.
Start a gentle discussion with them to try to understand if their clutter is a problem for them.
Ask questions to try to understand rather than tell them what they need to do.
Calmly let them know how the clutter may be affecting you.
Share your concerns for their safety and well-being.
Mention that there are people with the knowledge and skills to help them, like a professional organiser.
It is my practice to require the person to contact me themselves when/if they are ready to get assistance.
-
I care about our environment and want to help you to be sustainable while decluttering. I have the knowledge to help you find responsible options for donating your items that are still in good condition. I provide guidance about recyclables and remove some hard-to-recycle items during sessions that are not able to be put into the kerbside bins.

I understand that sometimes, for health or other reasons, people may find a 3 hour session difficult. We can discuss your circumstances but generally we first will try 3 hours to see if you can do that, you might be surprised what you can handle.
Please be aware that if, for any reason, sessions are less than 3 hours, the hourly rate will be slightly higher at $100 per hour.
